The release of the State Department’s latest Trafficking in Persons Report (TIP) revealed that Asia is home to some of the worst perpetrators of illegal human trafficking.

China has now joined the ranks of Russia, North Korea, Iran, and a handful of other countries as Tier 3 violators of human trafficking laws.

The United States has urged the Sri Lankan government to investigate and prosecute government officials suspected of complicity in human trafficking.

The 2013 Trafficking in Persons Report released by US Secretary of State John Kerry last week, said that Sri Lanka needs to improve efforts to investigate and prosecute suspected trafficking offenses.
