Ten thousand small soap bars, labeled with a National Anti-Human Trafficking Hotline number, will be given to hotels and motels in the Portland metropolitan area to combat the problem.

Members of East Portland Rotary clubs will be distributing the soap bars Monday through Saturday, and plan to ask area businesses, bus and train stations and truck stops to display anti-trafficking posters.

The Oregon State Senate passed Senate Bill 673 Tuesday, a bill that gives law enforcement additional, more powerful tools to target human traffickers. The bill now goes to the House of Representatives for consideration.

Woman forced into sex trade tells her story

Trapped in the underworld of the multimillion-dollar sex trade, Jes Richardson says she was afforded only one luxury: sending postcards home to her mother.

She was 17, she remembers, when she was lured into a West Coast prostitution circuit by an older man who made her feel like a queen and promised her travel to faraway places and exotic beaches.
