56 bonded labourers rescued

Fifty six bonded labourers including 10 children below the age of 10 were rescued by revenue and police officials from a brick kiln on the banks of Thirumalairajan river at Kabisthalam in Papanasam taluk on Sunday.

38 bonded labourers rescued from brick kiln

The district administration on Tuesday rescued 38 bonded labourers hailing from Odisha, including six children, from a brick kiln in the City.

Sleuths of anti-human trafficking unit of the Criminal Investigation Department, in a joint operation with a team comprising officials of the district administration, raided the brick kiln at Bagalur village near Lingarajapuram.

Rescuing from the bricks of bondage

Koppulapalle village, Andhra Pradesh: 63 people, including women and children, were rescued by the labour department from a brick kiln in Koppulapalle village of Medak district in Andhra Pradesh, after NDTV reported that the workers were surviving virtually like bonded labour, with even small children put to work, to maximise production and profits for the owner.

One of the victims of the gang, Arumugam, a worker from Puducherry, who landed as a bonded labourer at a sugarcane field in Ariyalur district, managed to escape and returned home a few days ago.

According to the report, the incident occurred near a jungle in Belpada village in Kalahandi district of Odisha when the two labourers were being taken back to their homes to recover the money paid to them in advance when they were hired.
