The United States government says Ghanaian women are being forced into prostitution and forced labour in foreign countries, particularly in the Middle East.

According to the US State Department’s Trafficking in Persons Report 2013, Ghanaian women migrating to the Middle East to work are forced into prostitution upon their arrival.

PARIS – An international police operation has freed nearly 400 children from forced labor in gold mines and cotton fields in Burkina Faso.

The police agency Interpol says children as young as 6 were found working in extreme conditions, including down "narrow, airless mining holes," and receiving no pay or schooling.

Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola has said the underdevelopment of Africa is one of the factors responsible for the trafficking of black Africans.

Speaking at the inauguration of the State Working Group of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and Other Related Matters (NAPTIP) on Tuesday at the Governor’s Office, Osogbo, Aregbesola said economically weak nations are the targets of human traffickers.
