Human trafficking rings have flourished since the start of the Syrian conflict, with children and other victims being sold across borders into Lebanon, Egypt and other Arab countries. Some children are trafficked for sex or labor — and others, namely young men, are driven into battle.

The US State Department has released its annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report concerning the global phenomenon of human trafficking and the resulting conditions of forced labour, which are described as modern-day slavery.

Fifty six bonded labourers including 10 children below the age of 10 were rescued by revenue and police officials from a brick kiln on the banks of Thirumalairajan river at Kabisthalam in Papanasam taluk on Sunday.
