The US State Department has released its annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report concerning the global phenomenon of human trafficking and the resulting conditions of forced labour, which are described as modern-day slavery.

They sell their bodies on the streets or in apartments, often because they're forced to do so. The problem is well-known, its dimension is not.

"There's hardly any information on child prostitution in Germany, because we don't have the knowledge, the facts and the numbers," Mechtild Maurer, president of the Working Group for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation (ECPAT), says.

Operation Blessing International officials say they have launched an anti-human trafficking awareness campaign in Mexico.

The campaign, “1A1,” aims to educate youths 11 to 18 about the dangers of sex trafficking, forced labor and other related activities, according to a news release.

PHUKET: Few issues are more tragic and complex than human trafficking. Recent warnings by the US that Thailand faces relegation to Tier 3 status in the US Trafficking Persons Report for 2013 should serve as a wake-up call to all of the Thai government agencies that should be working together to bring human traffickers to justice, but are failing miserably.
