Nigerian Arrested for Human Trafficking

A 36-year-old man identified as Victor Ezewuodo has been arrested by the Liberia National Police in connection with Human Trafficking.

Suspect Victor Ikenna Ezewuodo was arrested on August 2, 2013 and charged with the commission of the crime of illicit trafficking of human beings and migrant sumuggling.

Four child's rights organizations in the Mano River Union (MRU) basin, including the Defense for Children International Liberia (DCI-Liberia) have urged governments of member states to tackle cross-border child trafficking.

In a chat with this paper upon return to the country from Freetown, Sierra Leone, the Executive Director of DCI-Liberia, Foday Kawah, said cross-border child trafficking remains a post-conflict creeping menace that must be tackled quickly in the Mano River region.

The Ministry of Gender and Development has alarmed over the increase in children involvement in prostitution across the country.

The Gender Base Violence (GBV) Coordinator of the Ministry, Madam Deddeh Kwekwe told a gathering of journalists and religious leaders that the issue of child prostitution was a serious problem and that there is a need to involve everyone in the effort to curtail it.
